(系列5) 23. I don't want to f*cking steer. I want a row

The engineering job used to be rowing, and now it's steering. There's a lot of people out in the world right now that are like, I don't want to f*cking steer. I want a row. I liked rowing.

工程师这份工作过去就像是在划船，而现在更像是在掌舵。现在世界上有很多人会说：“我他妈不想掌舵。我想划船。我喜欢划船的那种工作方式。”

1. used to be + 名词/形容词= 过去是……，以前是……

● It used to be easy.以前很容易。

● Things used to be different.以前情况不一样。

● This place used to be a restaurant.这里以前是一家餐馆。

● He used to be my boss.他以前是我老板。

补充row, in a row 连续

● two days in a row连续两天

● three times in a row 连续三次

● five years in a row 连续五年

● I've been working for ten hours in a row. 我已经连续工作十个小时了。

2. a lot of people out there

people out there不是“外面的人”这么简单，而是：外面那些人 / 社会上很多人 / 世界各地有很多人

● There are a lot of people out there who think like that.外面有很多人都是这么想的。

● A lot of people out there don't understand this. 外面很多人其实不明白这一点。

3. right now 现在、此时此刻, 比单纯的 now 更有“就是现在这个时候”的感觉。

● What are you doing right now?

● I'm really busy right now.

4. be like...“然后他说/他们就说/他们的反应是……”

● I was like, "What are you doing?"我当时就说：“你干嘛呢？”

● She's like, "No way!"她就说：“不可能！”

● He's like, "I don't care."他就说：“我不在乎。”

5. I don't want to fucking...

这是一个非常典型的 fucking + 动词。这里 fucking 不是字面意思，而是加强语气： 我他妈不想……

● I don't fucking know.我他妈不知道。

● I fucking love it.我真的他妈太喜欢这个了。

● I don't fucking care.我他妈根本不在乎。

● Why would I fucking do that?我他妈为什么要那么做？
