entertain 的用法学习

1. entertain 基本常见意思是:

1) Entertain 作动词时，通常表示“使快乐、使有兴趣、娱乐”

e.g. She entertained the guests with her witty remarks. 她用机智的言语逗乐了客人。

2) Entertainment 是其名词形式，指“娱乐、消遣、演艺活动”等

e.g. The entertainment industry is rapidly growing.娱乐行业正在快速发展。

3) Entertainment industry（娱乐行业）包括电影、电视、音乐、剧场等领域，涉及内容的创作、制作和发行等环节。

相关表达还有 show business（演艺事业）或 showbiz，指娱乐行业的商业化运作。

2. entertain 除了娱乐意思以外, 还有一个意思可能大家不知道, If you entertain an idea or suggestion, you allow yourself to consider it as possible or as worth thinking about seriously. 一般可以翻译成"考虑, 思考, 评估“. 

“Entertain” 表示“考虑”的常见搭配

1) Entertain the idea 考虑某个想法

e.g. He briefly entertained the idea of quitting his job. 他短暂考虑过辞职的想法。

2) Entertain the prospect 考虑某种可能性

e.g. She didn't want to entertain the prospect of moving to another city for work. 她不想考虑搬到另一个城市工作的可能性。

3) Entertain the possibility 考虑某种可能性

We should entertain the possibility that the project might get delayed.  我们应该考虑项目可能会延期的可能性。

4) Entertain the notion  考虑某个概念或想法

e.g. She entertained the notion that she might go back to school someday. 她考虑过有一天可能会回到学校。
