Sona Kharatian grew up in Yerevan Armenia. She always felt comfortable on stage. Watching her parents perform made her fall in love with the ballet and start attending a local ballet school. But after she moved to the US, she realized she would have to learn the art of dancing.
索娜(Sona Kharatian)在亚美尼亚的埃里温长大成人。每当她站在舞台上,总会倍感惬意。受父母表演的耳濡目染,她爱上了芭蕾舞,并开始在当地的一所芭蕾舞学校上学。但她搬到美国后就意识到自己必须要将舞蹈作为一门艺术来学习了。

When I actually came more into, you know, seeing the companies and how things work here, it was very very different, big shock, and you know, different. The way they moved was different in the company, a lot faster, so I had to adjust a lot with my training, too. But hard work at the Washington School of Ballet paid off. After only a year, Sona was invited to join the permanent Washington Ballet Company. The Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland, the main role in the land. These are just a few of her star performances.
我愈发了解到美国舞团运转的方式和这里生活的节奏:跟亚美尼亚迥然不同,这对我是巨大的冲击,因为一切都不一样了。这里的舞团跳舞的节奏要快许多,所以我必须靠刻苦训练来适应节奏。不过,在华盛顿芭蕾舞学院,努力总是有回报的。在学习了仅一年后,索娜就受邀永久加入华盛顿芭蕾舞团。在爱丽丝漫游仙境的红色皇后中,她独挑大梁。而这只是她主舞表演中的冰山一角。
Discipline and busy schedules, hard work and the long rehearsals, this is something old ballet dancers know far too well, but Ukraine in ballet dancer Kateryna Derechyna believes such hardships only make her stronger. Kateryna Derechyna is in her sixth season with the Washington Ballet. She moved to the U.S. in 2001. I wasn’t expecting stay how I did and work here, but I’m glad that happened, and I got opportunities to do different works, different choreography and sort of like learning first-time contemporary work and modern and jazz, and school was something completely new to me. So, it was really great.
纪律严明、日程繁忙、工作辛苦、排练漫长,这些是资深芭蕾舞者再熟悉不过的常态了。但乌克兰的芭蕾舞者卡捷琳娜(Kateryna Derechyna)却认为,吃苦只会让她更加强大。卡捷琳娜已经在华盛顿芭蕾舞团走过了6个季节,她是2001年搬到美国的。我没有想到自己能像以前一样得心应手,也没想到自己能在这里工作,但我很开心我做到了这一切:我得到了尝试不同工作的机会,有幸参与不同的编舞,还第一次学习了现代舞和爵士舞。上学对我来说也是全新的体验。这一切都太棒了。
But though both ballerinas now considered the U.S. their home, they wouldn’t mind returning to their motherland. Yes, I would, I mean I would love to guest or perform there. I don’t know if I would leave and back in Ukraine. I haven’t been there in a long time. I’m a kind of my life is sort of here. Dance is universal. It has universal language, and no matter where you are, if that’s what I chose to do. It is my language. So I don’t feel like this is my home or that one. As a whole, I can perform here, next day I can go back and dance there or go travel anywhere and that’s I think dance unites us all and transcends all them.
不过,虽然这两位芭蕾舞者如今都对美国十分亲切,但他们还是不介意回到自己的祖国。是的,我会回去的,我愿意客座故乡或者回故乡表演。我不知道我是否会回老家待一辈子。我已经很久没回家乡了。我有点觉得自己应该在这里待下去。舞蹈是没有国界的。舞蹈就是沟通的语言,无论我们在哪儿,心之所向,无所不成。对我来说,舞蹈就是语言。所以我不会认为自己特定地属于某个地方。这样说吧,我可以今天在这里演出,明天又去那里演出,我四海为家。正因如此,我认为舞蹈可以将我们联结在一起,可以超越一切。
In May, Washington Ballet ended its season with Giselle in which Sona played in Basildon and Kateryna Derechyna Merton. Now the company has some time off until September when the dancers will resume speaking the language of beauty and movement that everyone understands.
