1. to feel like: 想要做某事，后面常接＋doing

e.g. I don't feel like studying tonight. Let's go to the movies.

e.g. I'm so sad. I feel like taking a long walk. 

2. inside out: 反了，翻过来了

e.g. Someone should tell me that my shirt is inside out.

e.g. The winds ruined my umbrella by blowing it inside out.

3. upside down: 上下颠倒

e.g. The accident caused one/the car to turn upside down, its wheels spinning in

the air.


e.g. One of the students was only pretending to read the book; the teacher could see that the book was actually upside down.

4. to fill in: 填写答案，填补信息空缺，告诉

e.g. You should be careful to fill in the blanks on the registration form correctly.

e.g. I haven't seen you for a long time. I heard you had a new girlfriend. Just fill me in.

5. to fill out: 填写表格

e.g. Every employee must fill out an application by giving name, address, previous jobs, etc.

e.g. The teenager had some trouble filling the forms out by himself, so his mother helped him.

6. no matter: 不管，后面＋wh-词引导的句子

e.g. No matter how much money he spends on his clothes, he never looks well dressed.

e.g. No matter how hard you try, you'll never make it.

7. to take up: 开始学习，开始做；占用时间、空间、精力等

e.g. After today's exam, the class will be ready to take up the last chapter in the book.

e.g. The piano takes up too much space in our living room. However, it would take too much time up to move it right now; so we'd better wait until later.

8. to take up with: 咨询某人，take后面＋事情，with+人，take something up with someone

e.g. Can I take the problem up with you? It's quite urgent.

e.g. I can't help you with this matter. You'll have to take it up with the manager.

9. to take after: to resemble a parent or close relative (for physical appearance only, also: to look like)

e.g. Which of your parents do you take after the most?

e.g. Peter looks like his father, but he takes after his mother in personality.

10. in touch: 联系（be/keep in touch）

e.g. James will be in touch with us soon to relay the details of the plan.


e.g. I enjoyed seeing you again after all these years. Let's be sure to keep in touch.

11. out of touch: 没有联系；和…隔绝

e.g. Laura and I had been out of touch for years, but then suddenly she called me up the other day.


e.g. Peter has been so busy that he seems out of touch with world events.

12. hard of hearing: 耳朵不好，听不清楚

e.g. You'll have to speak a little louder. Mrs. Evans is hard of hearing.

e.g. Please don't shout. I'm not hard of hearing.


13. to see eye to eye: 看法一致（on +事情，with +人）

e.g. I'm glad that we see eye to eye on this.

e.g. A husband and wife don't always see eye to eye with each other, but a

good marriage can survive small disagreements.

14. for once: 就一回

e.g. For once I was able to beatPeter. He plays pool so well.

e.g. For once would you please let me drive your car?

15. to make the best of: 在不好的情况下，充分发挥，尽力做好某事

e.g. If we can't find a larger apartment soon, we'll just have to make the best of it right here.


e.g. Even though the Peter’s family is having financial problems, they make the best of everything by enjoying the simple pleasures of life.
